The Magician Tarot card is ruled by the Hebrew letter Beth and the planet Mercury. The Hebrew letter Beth is the second letter of the Hebrew alphabet, representing the number two, and is the extension or vehicle of א Aleph. This is why we have Alphabet, a combination of ‘Aleph Bet(h).’

To fully understand ב Beth, you always have to remember א Aleph because ב Beth is that through which א Aleph speaks. Beth looks like a mouth; however, without breath (Aleph), we would not be able to talk. The mouth needs air to speak, like Beth needs Aleph to be understood. The breath or the spirit represents the divine Consciousness within us. This divine Consciousness stays at rest without the word, and our mouths bring forth the God or lack of God within us. Breath is creation emerging through Beth, which is why Beth is the very first letter of the Bible.

The Magician is ruled by Mercury, a solid element, liquid, fire, and air. Mercury is also the planet closes to the Sun in our solar system. In Astrology, Mercury rules Virgo and Gemini, representing the planet’s multiple roles in the cosmos. Astrologically this planet represents communication, truth, and conscious mental processes.
